Parents, Guardians, & Students,

Welcome (or welcome back) to CVHS Orchestra! I am excited to begin our new school year tomorrow.

 A few important things .

1. Students do NOT need their instruments on the first day of school –  August 2nd.

 2. If your child is in Symphonic Strings (4th hour) or Strolling Strings (A hour), then please bring your instruments on Friday, August 3rd.

 3. If your child is Concert Orchestra or Chamber Orchestra (Concert Orchestra II), please plan to bring your instrument on Monday, August 6th.

4. If your child plays cello or bass, we have a school cello or bass here at CVHS for rental fee of $50. While they cannot take their instrument home, this allows them class use each day for the entire school year. The fee covers replacement strings and bow hair replacements that undoubtedly happen each year. If for some reason, you cannot pay the $50, please just email me at crystal.payne@gilbertschools.net so that we can come up with a solution. This $50 should be paid to the bookstore as an instrument rental fee. Next week, this fee should show up on your online infinite campus account. This fee is due by Monday, August 13th. I do have a limited amount of school violins and violas for rental that students can take back and forth from school to home, but I check them out on a first serve, first come basis and financial need is taken into consideration.

 5. All students pay a total of $75 as a class fee. $50 is payable via infinite campus/bookstore (this covers festival fees, music fees, transportation to and from festivals, etc.). $25 is payable to our CVHS Orchestra Parent Booster Club. Your child can bring cash/check payable to CVHS OPO to school (to me) and that pays for your child’s T-Shirt/Charms account fees. This fee is due by Monday, August 13th.

 6. If you did not get my previous email during the summer, your child needs these materials by Monday, August 6th:

-A 2 inch black binder

-25 sheet protectors

-pencils

-instrument

-rosin

-extra strings are recommended

-rock stop, if a cellist or bassist

-a music stand for at home practice is recommended

 7. On August 2nd,  your child should bring home an Orchestra Membership Agreement form that needs to be signed by you and your child. This acknowledges that you and your child have read our Orchestra Handbook. In our Orchestra Handbook, you can find all of the dates of our concerts and festivals. Grading policies and procedures are also included the Orchestra Handbook. Students can access this handbook on their respective google classrooms.  Once they are in our google classroom, they can go to the “About” section and there, you should be able to download our Orchestra Handbook. You can also access the handbook on the Resources tab or click here.
