I just wanted to take a moment and tell you about our performance at Mariposa Point Assisted Living Facility. Strolling Strings performed for mostly memory care patients. After our performance, I encouraged all students to shake hands and wish the residents Happy Holidays. As the students were speaking with the residents and introducing themselves, one group of students were asked by a resident to play “White Christmas” once more. Before I knew it, they had started playing and shortly after, the rest of the ensemble was singing and playing along. As most of our students were playing “White Christmas”, a few stepped aside to help push a resident in a wheelchair and keep her company as the music played. It was such a beautiful moment and I wanted to share some of it with you. The most wonderful thing about it was that the students did this all of their own accord.
I am just so grateful for all of your children, for your support of our orchestra program, and for entrusting me to teach these fine young adults. As their teacher, I was beaming with pride. As parents, I knew that you would be proud of them. It meant so much to the residents and the activities coordinator said that for one particular resident, it put a smile on her face that she had not seen in months.
