Parents, Guardians, & Students,
I wanted to take a moment to explain how I approach playing quizzes and concert seating here at CVHS.
Students will have their first playing quiz via video on google classroom due by Thursday, August 23rd. Students will receive the playing quiz parts tomorrow. This means that they have an entire week to practice the parts, record themselves, and upload a video to google classroom for credit. The next playing quiz will be on Monday, September 10th during their class period with their sectional coaches. All of our sectional coaches are highly qualified and have degrees in Music. If you are interested, you can find out more about our section coaches on our website at campoverdeorchestras.org
Once both quizzes are graded, I take both scores (graded from a rubric) and average them. Their averaged score is what determines their chair/seat for the concert.
Please encourage your child to practice their parts and listen to their recordings (posted on google classroom). If your child has a question or needs assistance on any part, I am available each day during 5th hour lunch or after school by appointment. Lastly, I always stress to the students to practice not just because of their chair placement, but because it’s their responsibility to the orchestra program to know their parts. We have many wonderful musicians here at CVHS and I encourage the students to focus more on their own personal progress made by practicing rather than their chair placement. Every member of the team, no matter where they are seated in the orchestra, is a valuable member of our orchestra.
Thank you,
Mrs. Payne
